Ruinart champagne
THE CHAMPAGNE PRODUCER RUINART WAS FOUNDED IN RHEIMS IN 1729. HIS CUVÉE IS DOM RUINART.
RUINART BELONGS TO FAMILY GROUP IVMH.
Dom Ruinart came from a middle-class family of cloth merchants from the Champagne. During his trading trips in Europe he recognized the future potential for the production of Champagne. He quickly understood the growing enthusiasm at the aristocratic courts, which was triggered by the champagne. He passed on this knowledge and his vision of champagne to his brother Nicolas Ruinart. Dom Ruinart, realized early on the future fame, importance and success of Champagne wine. But he had to wait for the royal decree of 25 May 1728 to make his dream come true. With this decree, the king allowed wine to be transported in bottles. Before this date, wine could not be transported in bottles, but only in barrels, which was unthinkable for Champagne wine. The first shipments of Champagne wine went to drapers, what today would be called promotional gifts. Like his uncle twenty years earlier, he quickly discovered that the wine business was more profitable than the cloth business. In the ports, the champagne baskets of bottled wine on the ships very quickly replaced the bales of cloth and the rolls of cloth. Business was so good that from 1735 the sale of champagne was the sole activity of Ruinart. Today, Ruinart belongs to the LVMH trading group.
