Besserat de Bellefon Champagne
The Champagne Producer Besserat de Bellefon was founded in 1843 in Épernay. Its cuvée is the Cuvée des Moines.
Besserat de Bellefon belongs to the group of Boizel Chanoine Champagne.
In 1843, Edmond Besserat settled in Aÿ who originally came from Hautvillers. Over the years he became known for his skill in making exceptional cuvées, which he supplied to the biggest hotels, restaurants and wine merchants of the day. He decided to market his own champagne under the brand name Besserat. His son, Victor Besserat and his two grandchildren took over the business and increased the reputation and prestige of the Besserat house. With complementary talents (one was an excellent technician, the other a top-class taster) they worked together in complete harmony. They were committed to further developing the reputation and prestige of Besserat de Bellefon. In 1927, Edmond Besserat, the grandson, married Yvonne de Méric de Bellefon: the Besserat de Bellefon brand was born. In the 1930s, Victor Besserat created a white Crémant wine, a sparkling wine, for a renowned Parisian gastronome who wanted to offer his customers a finely sparkling champagne that would harmonise with all the courses of a menu, from the aperitif to the dessert. The jewel of the house Besserat de Bellefon, la Cuvée des Moines, was born. Later, the brand developed and internationalised before joining the Marne & Champagne group founded by Gaston Burtin in 1933 in 1972. Marie-Laurence Mora, heiress of this talented man, devotes all her attention to the new cuvée and has brought back into fashion the fine bottle with an elongated neck, whose origin dates back to the 18th century. This famous and excellent champagne is immediately recognizable through this exclusive bottle.
