Pommery is a well-known champagne brand. Louise Pommery is a cuvée prestige named after the wife of Louis-Alexandre Pommery, founder of the champagne house in Reims in 1856. The cuvée is made from the grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and since 2002 distributed by the Champagne House Vranken, located in Épernay.
Pommery & Greno was founded in 1858 by Alexandre Louis Pommery and Narcisse Greno. The core business was the trade with wool. Louise Pommery expanded the company to the most famous champagne brand at the end of the 19th century.
Jeanne Alexandrine Louise Mélin was born in the Ardennes on March 18, 1819. She married Alexandre Pommery in 1839. After Alexandre's death in 1860, Louise Pommery took over the management of Pommery & Greno and consistently directed the trading house towards the manufacture and trade of Champagne from. She was one of the first to recognize the importance of the rock tunnels cut into the chalk cliffs by Roman soldiers for storing wine.
