Champillon

Champillon (zip code 51160) is a small commune, with 502 inhabitants (as of 2016), in France, in the Champagne region Montagne de Reims. The commune is located about 5 km north of Épernay, southwest of the Montagne de Reims, completely embedded in the hills in a U-shape. Champillon carries the status of Champagne classification, as a Premier Cru place. The grapes of the commune are rated 93%. The vineyards have a southern exposure. The slopes, some of which are steep, are located at an altitude of 120 meters, rising to 250 meters. The commune has vineyards of 72.5 hectares (as of 2019). The vineyards are distributed with 14.3 hectares of Chardonnay grape variety, 22.4 hectares of Pinot Meunier and 35.8 hectares of Pinot Noir. Due to the outstanding location, Champillon's grapes have an excellent quality that would also justify an upgrade in status, from over 93%. Varietal wines from Champillon are multi-faceted, concentrated, full-bodied, with plenty of extract. From the highest points, as well as from the terraces of the Hotel Le Royal Champagne, of Champillon, a wonderful view can be found with very impressive views towards the south, over the Marne valley and towards Épernay.
