Cattier Champagne
The manufacturer Cattier Champagne was founded in 1918 in Chigny-Les-Roses. Its cuvée is Clos du Moulin. Cattier is an independent champagne producer.
1625 - The family farms a vineyard in Chigny Les Roses, a charming little village in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, known for its excellent grapes. Chigny-les-Roses is a place name traditionally associated with French country life. Located in a valley not far from Reims and Epernay, this little town is one of the finest sites in the Champagne, to the 'Premier Crus'. Here the family Cattier acquired an estate in 1763.
After a serious war injury, Jean Cattier-father left the front line. Since he cannot sell his grapes in this field of tension, he makes his first vinification. The first bottles of Champagne CATTIER are marketed at the end of the war, in 1918! What a symbol!
Today, Cattier Champagne is a family business with 20 hectares located in five different crus on the Montagne de Reims. A terroir of such high quality is rare in Champagne. The estate also includes the famous 'Clos du Moulin' à Ludes. The Cattiers chose Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay as grape varieties. The brothers Jean-Jacques and Alexandre Cattier, both oenologists from the University of Rheims, who run their estate with great dedication, combine tradition and modern technology. Their cellar is a place of modern technology, their cellar for ageing the products a place with a lot of tradition: dug 30 metres underground into the chalk cliffs, 1 km divided into three rooms where 1 million bottles can rest. Who wouldn't be impressed by that?
The launch of a new brand in 2006, Armand de Brignac, is one of the most prestigious champagne vintages. Innovative in its presentation, it was named the best champagne in the world in 2010 by the international Fine Champagne Magazine.
Alexandre kicks 2011 succeeded his father Jean-Jacques at the head of the house after spending eight years on the farm. With his cousins Agathe and Marie, daughters of Liliane and Jean-Louis respectively, he has made it his mission to develop the know-how passed down for 11 generations!
