Canard-Duchêne Champagne
Canard-Duchêne Champagne was founded in 1868 in Ludes. Its cuvée is the Grande Cuvée Charles VII. Canard-Duchêne belongs to family group Alain Thiénot.
Canard-Duchêne's passion is based on a unique blend of family values and a deeply rooted Champagne rooted identity. It all began with the love of Victor Canard and Léonie Duchêne. In 1868, they founded the eponymous Maison Canard-Duchêne, driven by a bold vision: to showcase the exceptional potential of their mountain village in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. In the heart of the Montagne de Reims in Ludes, the romance between Victor Canard, a barrel maker, and Léonie Duchêne, a gardener's daughter, blossomed in 1859.
- 1868 Victor and Léonie brought their names and their savoir-faire together to create the Maison Canard-Duchêne.
- 1890 Popular with Tsar Nicholas II and the Imperial Court of Russia, Canard-Duchêne Champagne was given the privilege of displaying the Russian coat of arms.
- 1955 The two world wars took their toll on the castle that existed in the heart of the domain, leaving intact only the limestone cellars that are still in use today.
- 1968 The house celebrated its centenary by creating a special cuvée named after the famous King of France, Charles VII. The uniquely shaped bottle contains a refined blend that both illustrates the savoir-faire and celebrates the best plots of land in the vineyards.
- 2018 Canard Duchêne is celebrating its 150th anniversary, an occasion to pay tribute to past generations who have contributed over a lifetime to the reputation and prestige of the House throughout the world.
The domain Canard-Duchêne is located in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, surrounded by famous vineyards and breathtaking landscapes. Ludes enjoys an exceptional location. Located on the famous plateau of the Montagne de Reims, the village is surrounded by lush forests and delicate vineyards.
A true piece of the oenological heritage of Canard-Duchêne champagne, Pinot Noir draws its character from the nutrient-rich soil of the Montagne de Reims, the product of 70 million years of evolution and a unique combination of limestone, chalk, clay and sand.
Canard-Duchêne Champagne has the noble grape variety of Pinot Noir, which is the signature of the house wine style. The unique identity of Canard-Duchêne is based on the character and elegance of Pinot Noir: it gives structure to the wine and enhances the fruity notes of cherry, sour cherry, blackberry, currant, strawberry and raspberry. Despite its intense purple skin, Pinot Noir produces a clear must, which produces a clear juice with seeds, skins and solids from the freshly pressed grapes.
Laurent Fédou is a true craftsman, driven by instinct and curiosity. He uses these qualities as inspiration to rethink the art of making champagne without neglecting tradition. For 15 years, Fédou has brought joy and creativity to the Maison Canard-Duchêne.
The house Canard-Duchêne is always a bit in the shadow of Veuve Cliquot, because it belongs to the same group. Founded in 1868, the house has its own vineyards, but these only cover 4% of its own needs. Most of this demand for grapes goes to the tested Canard-Duchêne Champagne Brut; the lesser-known cuvées make up only a very small part of the turnover.
